Through the windows ...

... the sun was a bright round ball.

Cycling to work along Great North Road, the sun was newly risen. My sunglasses have polarising lenses, and the great flare shown by my iPhone was not apparent. The eye of the believer will see the roundness of the sun in the lower corner of the showroom windows of a car sales company.

The City Council has granted building consents to the owners of the multiple car saleyards along this prime stretch of city fringe main route. Walking or cycling distance from Ponsonby and from the University and central city, this land would be better used as apartment buildings or offices. Ordinary retail on the ground floor, even. But car yards?

Apparently prior use permits the owners to continue to use the land for that purpose, and to redevelop by spnding millions on flash new premises. There is no passing foot traffic, and few local purchasers of six figure motor vehicles.

It feels like the final convulsions of a dinosaur industry. The sooner it passes the better, in my opinion.
