Monarch and Feuriach

Today I went to Haddo House Country Park with the aim of finding some interesting fungi. I failed miserably and instead ended up photographing a rather fine commemorative statue of 2 dogs who died way back in 1905. Erected in 1909 the statue is the work of the French painter and sculptor Harold Du Chene De Vere.

The inscription informs that the 2 dogs were Monarch and Feuriach, the faithful friends and constant companions of Ishbel, Countess of Aberdeen. We are told that the dogs so enjoyed life together that when Feuriach died Monarch refused to live without her.
