Dendritic fossil

Dendritic fossils are not true fossils of plants or animals, rather they are natural features caused by water charged with magnesium and iron filtering along narrow cracks and grooves in sedimentary rock then evaporating.

I mention this as it distracts from the real purpose of the day which was to continue painting and installing new fence panels. Two more done today, five completed, four to go and two of them rather entangled in shrubs and ivy and difficult to access.

Our neighbours have had work done on their back garden and side passage which they’ve had laid with with slabs which are covered with these delicate and fascinating features. We've been using their passage to install the fences and hence noticed these interesting phenomena.
