The Cathedral Basilica of Salta and Sanctuary of the Lord and the Virgin of the Miracle is a cathedral located in the city of Salta, Argentina dating from the second part of the 19th century and built from the destruction by an earthquake of the previous building by Minerva Cano.
Located in the center of the city of Salta, it is a magnificent religious building, richly decorated and whose visit is part of almost all tourism trips in the region; It was declared a national historical monument.
In 1856, due to the earthquake that destroyed the old building, funds were raised for its reconstruction. The work began in 1858, at the request of Bishop José Eusebio Colombres. The plans were designed by architect Felipe Bertrés. It took twenty years to work lead to the dedication and opening of the new cathedral. But it lacked the facade and towers, including the bells. Great Italian, Brazilian, Bolivian artists like Soldati and R.P. Luis Giorgi participated in the execution of the project. The set was completed in 1882.
