Upton House

We went to our fourth National Trust property of the week today when we gave Maureen and Ian a lift to Upton House and Gardens.  We're certainly getting our money's worth from our National Trust membership!

Unfortunately it was raining.  This wasn't too much of a problem as we spent quite a bit of our time in the cafe.  We started there with a cup of coffee then walked over to the 'new' squash court, well it was new in the nineteen thirties, it's now used as an exhibition area with the viewing area as the second hand bookshop.  They are currently holding an exhibition of watercolours by David Birtwhistle, a prolific artist who up to a while ago had a gallery in Worcester.

There are paintings from near and far and cover all the walls.  One in particular caught our eye as it is of the village outside Stratford where we used to live, Temple Grafton (I've added it as an extra).

It was then back for lunch in the cafe and a nice long chat before deciding to give up on a walk in the gardens due to the inclement weather and drove back to Warwick.

Not a lot of photos were taken, but this one I'll dedicate to my friend John whose favourite pastime at National Trust properties is to visit the second hand book shop.  The wooden stairs at the end of the corridor lead up to the squash court viewing area.
