Momento mori

Sunny but very windy.. but after yesterday's deluge..a great improvement. Went to Rampside to walk Fletch along the  coastal path. Usually there are lots of  cyclists but it must have been too windy for them today.
On the way back we stopped off at St Michael's church.. We've driven past 100s if not thousands of times but never been. The  church was closed .. repair work in evidence, but we had a wander round the gravestones, wondering if a past occupant of our old house was buried there. Turns out the graveyard is much bigger than we realised.. it would take a long time to explore. There were several sheep in there... saves mowing as they were doing a good job keeping the grass short.
Sobering to see the age of so many people  on the gravestones.. seemed so young to us and sad to see those of young chikdren, testament to how hard life must have been in the mid 19th Century.
As we left a butterfly landed on the path.. finally a Painted lady ( I think) I only had my phone but managed a photo of one at last .see extras
