Did-(not)-cot Cooling Towers

We were up stupidly early today to go and watch the demolition of the remaining three Didcot Power Station cooling towers. Memories of watching demolitions on the TV in the 1970s and 1980s as children meant we wanted to come and see these going in person.

7am sharp, there was a gentle tumble followed by a loud bang (light being faster than sound). We watched as the towers elegantly folded themselves down and disappeared from the skyline.

Just after, a loud bang and massive arcing from power cables by a sub-station gave even more drama to the moment. Rumour has it, a drone flew into them. Whatever happened, a number of homes were without power as we drove home as were several sets of the traffic lights we went through.

A major local landmark and navigational aid gone forever.
