Crazy About Birds

Northern Flicker

This is a Northern flicker - a woodpecker. In the east the flickers are "yellow-shafted" and in the west they are "red-shafted." This guy is showing off his lovely yellow shafted wing while preening. The Husband saw me pointing my camera at a rather distant tree and said "What?" I said "Well, it's either a woodpecker or a leaf that's turning bright yellow hanging onto a dead limb." It was, in fact, a woodpecker. Gotta love a zoom lens!
