Escape to the South

Our day to escape to South Shropshire. The weather didn't look too promising despite the forecast. By the time we reached Onibury the rain was torrential once more. We carried on to the Ludlow farm shop to stock up on delicious breads, cheeses and snacks. Then we headed to Mortimer Forest. At the main pool we saw several Common Hawkers (extra) emerging but very little else. On through the woods to the second pond where we saw Southern Hawkers (extra) and Silver-washed Fritillaries (extra) dancing in a pool of sunlight. Picnic lunch next while watching a Common Hawker. On to the viewpoint looking over Ludlow Castle (extra) and then to Clee Hill with it's fabulous views of Gloucestershire, Hereford, Worcestershire and over to the Brecon Beacons and Wales.(extra) From here we headed to Cramer Gutter and the main aim of the day - Keeled Skimmers ( main blip), Golden-ringed Dragonflies and Black Darters. The sun shone on us here. Fantastic day but all too soon it was time to collect Eli from work.
