Wanderings & Witterings

This portrait of a woman taking a selfie is by the artist Gerard de Lairesse and dates from 1668. It's on display at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.

In another gallery there's a quotation by the artist Paul Cézanne, who said, "I want to conquer Paris with an apple." Sadly for M. Cézanne, it would be another 100 years before Mr Gates provided the relevant technology.
