Toll Thorough

One of the charms of our town is that dotted around town there are reminders of times gone past...of our history...of the fact that we are living where life has happened for many centuries.....

life that was in many ways harsher and more cruel...but maybe in some respect calmer and richer??

Today's One Street blip is between the butcher & delicatessen shop...easily walked past.....easy to miss....

this was the site of New Gate, one of the four entrances through the town walls into the old town...in the 13th century...at the top Toll Thorough is still faintly readable.....

New Gate was demolished in 1782

Thanks to the Oswestry Civic Society for reminding us to treasure our heritage!
