Levenshulme in south Manchester is an economically challenged part of the city, but like many similar deprived urban areas has a dynamic and buzzing community spirit. Here two committed young women launched a local Friends of the Earth initiative to get local action on climate change. With fires raging across the Amazon it seems a hopeless task, but for the sake of our grandchildren acting locally and thinking globally may see oaks grow from acorns
