Gummer's How

Climbed to the top of Gummer's How  ( 321m) while Richard did half a dozen hill reps. Thats the sort of thing you do when you are 26 and a keen runner. I was pleased to have ascended the hill the once and disappointed to find it was not an official Wainwright. AW did climb it but he wrote about it in Book 8. The peak has to be in Books 1-7 to be an official Wainwright peak. Never mind, I found out later that is a "Marilyn"( a peak with a prominance of at least 150m). Extras are :- Gummer's How from the distance and Richard racing up to bag the peak, yes it was very hot on Sunday
PS "How"- haugr  is the Old Norse word for a hill or mound but no record as to who Gummer was. And AW in Book 8 wrote ;-  "an old man's mountain", : "And when ancient legs can no longer climb it know ye that the sad day has come to hung up the boots for ever and take to slippers".
PPS , was finally able to claim the geocache hidden up here which was waiting for my return to fitness
PPPS, then we walked up to High Dam for a swim
PPPPS its our wedding anniversary
