Sandgate

We thought it would be cooler by the sea but the temperature peaked at 32C all day. We drove down to Sandgate which is midway between Hythe and Folkestone on the Kent coast.

It was great to see families swimming in the sea, which was quite warm and people sunbathing on the shingle beach. We had coffee on the beach in a cafe called The Old Boathouse. See extra.

By the War Memorial in the High Street there was a beautiful bench commemorating WW1 soldiers.
It was part of the WW1 Footprint Project and there were 16 metal footprints embedded in the ground , each bearing the name and date of death of a service person from WW1.

We had chips from the chip shop for our lunch, eating them under a tree in the shade in the Saga Gardens known as Enbrook Park.

Unusual for us, we sat on the beach for a short while. I didn't find any stones with holes for a mobile I want to make, as the shingle was imported builders materials, part of the sea flood defences.

I was pleased to be by the sea and probably walked the farthest today in a long while.
