Frosterly marble

I just bought a Victorian hall stand to go in my hall. It is the traditional shape with coat hooks a mirror and a drawer. On top of the drawer is a slab of marble. I assume this is so when you put wet stuff on it it the surface wouldn't be damaged as wood would be. I was pleased to see the marble was Frosterly marble. I had not noticed that when I bid for it in the auction room. Frosterly marble is a local marble that is characterized by sea creatures being evident in it. It features in columns in Durham cathedral, the font at St Peter's church ,Sunderland and the floor of the Laing art gallery in Newcastle.
