Could art change the world?
I recently came across the work of a French artist, who simply goes by JR, and whose "work with intent" I thought might be of interest.
JR's work combines art and action, and deals with commitment, freedom, identity and limits. He pastes large black-and-white photographic images in public locations, in a manner similar to the appropriation of the built environment by graffitti artist, believing that the street is "the largest art gallery in the world." His work "often challenges widely held preconceptions and the reductive images propagated by advertising and the media."
Here's a link to his work, including a TED presentation by the artist himself. Well worth a look!
