Clouds over Perth (and everywhere else)

A break from posting old blips, because I couldn't let the day go unremarked.

I feel as upset today as I did after the Brexit referendum result.  I think Johnson has done real damage to the prospects of democracy and the monarchy, and made Scottish independence more likely. Strange, coming from a "conservative" government.

Actually I am ambivalent about Scottish independence. My family ties are to England, but increasingly I think that Scotland would be better off with less fallout from the coming turmoil in England.

Why turmoil? Well, Brexit isn't an end in itself for anyone. For leavers at both ends of the political spectrum, it removes EU constraints against more radical change. The sides, conservative and socialist, can't both have their way and the political climate is set against compromise or respect for democratic norms.
