British Woodland

Disturbingly only about 13-15% of Britain is covered in woodland, but rather than harp on about that, I’ll comment on how wonderful the bits are that we have left and how lucky I am to have so much woodland local to home. I love walking under deciduous trees. I love the way dappled light finds a way through; the ‘woody’ smell; the variety of species, leaves & fruits; the wildlife supported by them; and the fungi underneath.

This particular ancient tree is a beech and the bracket fungus growing on it is probably Ganoderma applanatum, Artist’s Bracket.

I had a meeting in the woods this morning and got some Girlguiding planning done too.
