Rostock, Germany

Situated in the northern German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Rostock has been one of the most advanced communities in its region for centuries. It was a major trading area for hops and salted fish. To ensure safe trade routes, local merchants joined forces with merchants from other harbor towns to form the Hanseatic League in the 12th century, which lasted 400-years.
