Burgh Island

This was our second night here.  There was a 3 piece band singing music of the era and a few people got up and danced.  Evening dress is pretty much compulsory for the evening here although you can dine in a separate dining room if you wish.  Most people coming here embrace the 30's theme and dress for dinner.  The young lady outside managed to dance with her partner despite having what looks like a broken leg ..... she got a round of applause.  The day had been pretty grim earlier.  The weather was iffy and we had planned to do a 5 mile circular walk around the headland with our friends.  However, we managed to get lost and it ended up being a 7 mile walk and distinctly uncircular ..... we had to get a taxi back as after 3 and a half hours our feet were soaked and the bad weather had set in.  We managed to find ourselves in a cow field with no exit ..... except back the way we had come.  The cows had calves and were in no mood to get out of the way and so having walked the whole field we were obliged to edge along at a snails pace with our backs to them .... I must admit I was a little frightened by them.  Our friends who have lived down here for 25 years and have 9 acres themselves have said that we were right to be cautious.  He once tried to move a stray cow off his land with a neighbour and it turned around and raced straight at him ..... breaking his nose and causing him to have two surgeries to right it!  Anyway, my husband was not popular as he was doing the navigating ......  got back to the hotel land into a hot bath but we did enjoy the evening :)
