Day 12 The last day, Dubrovnik to Čilipi, 32 miles

We cycled out of Dubrovnik on quiet roads stopping to tell a fellow cyclist about the route into Dubrovnik which he was grateful for. We also stopped to look back at the view of Dubrovnik and suddenly were surrounded by 5 cats, one crawling through the spooks of my wheels!

We worked our way along the coast to Kupari to see the bombed out remains of 4 huge hotels. The hotels were bombed in the early 1990s. Fascinating eerie places. The locals still use the beach so we had a coffee too.

After a few miles on the main road we went around both sides of a beautiful quiet valley behind Dubrovnik airport. We of course encountered a horrendous half mile of 10% climb! But we stopped here and there, foraged figs and pomegranate ( not ripe but neither of us had seen them growing in the wild before). I suggested diverting a mile to a beach near the end of the ride - great idea because the nearby beach was stunning despite being an epic walk down the cliff to it. After a swim in the sea we cycled the last 3 miles to our lovely apartment. Pizza and salad shared for tea, now on our balcony drinking Croatian beer watch an amazing lightening storm lighting up clouds in the distance.
All in all a fabulous cycle tour. We recommend Croatia.
