One Crowded Hour

and not just...

...a snag on a slice of bread with onions and sauce.

Been there done that as a parent of Cubs when once  a year we would book our 'sausage sizzle' months in advance outside the local supermarket or hardware store and fund raise for the year.
An Aussie tradition...nay icon!!...dating back to the 940s, elevating the status of the humble sausage (NOT rationed during the war unlike the 'prime cuts' of meats) from dodgy to delicious where the sizzle means more than just a 'sausage'.
It raises funds to support those devastated by floods, droughts and fire, the local State Emergency Services, community clubs and events and yes even sorting the politicians.
The poor old polis rocks up at a local event and are judged on...can they turn a snag on the barbie?, can they load it onto a square of bread and even more will they eat it!! So was born the 'Democracy Sausage'!...the sausage sizzle at voting booths and which was voted word, or should that be phrase, of the year in 2016!

Having wielded the tongs, fried the onions and sausages and loaded up the slice of bread with the two I was saddened to hear that there is a move...by Health and Safety no less...to remove the onions from the top of the snag to lie beneath it!
WHAT!...well the onion might slip off and someone might slip on it.
Bonkers.
