Nicky and her Nikon

Sunshine following rain

We are currently living through very turbulent political times here in the UK. One day in the future, if I am lucky enough to have grandchildren, they may well ask me about living through these times. And what will I say to them? That we had a very intelligent Prime Minister who foolishly decided to hold a referendum, which resulted in the UK exiting from the EU, and his subsequent resignation. That despite the majority of the nation voting to leave the EU, there have been constant protests and outcries from the people who do not wish Brexit to happen. That the poor woman who took over as Prime Minister worked tirelessly for three years to try and achieve what the people voted for, but was met with opposition and back stabbing from her fellow politicians all the way, and hated by the nation. That the man who replaced her, decided to try a different, bolder approach to get the EU to agree to a Brexit deal, and in doing so resorted to undemocratic measures. That’s the funny thing about having a democracy, the people get what they vote for – and three years after this whole mess started, the people still forget that the majority voted to leave the EU (not me!). But what about the EU politicians and negotiators, why are they not criticised for being so damn stubborn and not giving an inch? Are they not the bad guys here, by being so difficult to negotiate with, or is it just easier to slag off our own politicians rather than to recognise the difficult job they are trying to do. While everyone is so pleased with the result of last night’s vote against the Prime Minister, I think there is a large element of personal feelings involved, trying to show him the big finger as he is so disliked, but when you look at the situation in the cold light of the day, does he not have a point when he says the new bill will ‘hand control of the Brexit negotiations to the EU and bring more dither, more delay and more confusion’. So no change then from what we had before he replaced the previous Prime Minister. And so it goes on....will an end to this mess ever be in sight?

A busy day - last minute shopping with Luke for a new suit as he starts work tomorrow (millennials are not known for their forward planning), groceries, washing, ironing, all very domestic and boring. A lovely walk in the woods with Xena where I took this image.

Now off to our camera group meeting so no time for journals tonight
