Water Tower

Today Marie and I traveled down to our old town Invercargill for Marie's Nieces 21st Birthday. We had a great time catching up with her Family and some good laughs. This is the Invercargill Waterworks Water tower (1889), 42.6m Tall with a 300,000ltr Tank on the top. Originally used to give high pressure water to the cities reticulated water supply and in later years was used to keep pressure on the mains when there was a power cut until the standby generator powered up the pumps. The Cupola on the top is a replica which replaced the original that was dismantled in 1934. The new Cupola was installed in 1989 as part of it's centenary celebrations. Every Monday I would ascend the 135 steps to the top and flush the tank and then climb back down again, many happy memories from the days when I worked here.
