Route Barrée

It always amazes me how I can get up one morning and find the main street of the town, which the previous day we had driven down (and caused a traffic jam as we looked for the hotel and somewhere to park) and which was very busy with  cars and vans, has been shut off and transformed into a market, with stalls piled high with produce lining the road and bars and cafes suddenly spread out with tables and chairs. People everywhere, lots of chatting and laughing . . . and of course shopping. And the shopping taken so seriously, every purchase discussed at length, but in a jovial manner. I love these local French markets.

After shopping and several coffees, we have been travelling and have now arrived in the Dordogne where we are staying for the next week. Breaking with the tradition of many years of heading for Provence, we decided to try a place we haven't been to for 30 years, since our children were young and we had some family holidays here. I wonder how much we will recognise. We are now settled into a lovely house with its own large garden and pool and the weather promises well for its use.

(And I can now catch up with everyone)
