Mono Monday - Reflection

This isn't a great picture but it was really difficult to show what I wanted.   

It shows the difference between normal glass on the left and anti-reflective glass on the right.   The difference has to be seen to be believed and most people can't believe there is actually any glass in the right side.   Not only are reflections missing but the colour and contrast of the underlying object/image are dramatically enhanced.

This comes at a price however.   A 4 x 3 ft sheet of standard glass costs me about £3 whereas the same sized sheet of antireflective glass is about £60.   Despite this,   I reckon about 80% of my framing customers go for the antireflective glass.

Anti-reflective glass used to have a bit of a bad reputation as it had an etched finish and detail of the underlying image was lost.   The modern version contains a thin layer of metal deposited on the surface and is exactly the same as that on spectacles and camera lenses.
