Surgeon, Engineer and Exterminator!

What do these three people have in common, you might ask?

The answer is, all three came to work within very close proximity to our house today.

This sycamore is getting far too big for the Close but the council have deemed it too expensive to replace with something smaller. The problem is, every time it gets 'trimmed' it panics and grows twice as vigorously. They've strapped the boughs together too, as it is splitting!

Whilst this surgery was going on, a BT engineer had the road up and numerous vehicles were parked all over the pavements and grass verges.

Next a knock on the door. It was a giant of a man called 'Rich'. He wanted to know if I needed to leave my house. Strange question but it turned out that he was a pest controller and needed to kill off a wasps nest in the cottage next door. He was very knowledgeable about the type of wasps they were and told me that they were particularly aggressive European wasps and that it would not be safe to go outside. I had told the estate agent about the nest some weeks ago, as we were inundated with them and I was afraid that one of the children might get stung.

Anyway, all done now and my new fencing will be saved from further damage. Apparently, the little blighters had been using it to make their nest, as they are partial to a bit of fresh new wood :-)
