The Clubhouse

Behold the last sun rays illuminating the picturesque clubhouse of the Royal Cricket & Football Club in the Hague and the tall trees of the adjoining wood casting long shadows on the field.
Its a location thats on my shotlist for quite some time now, but passing it under these conditions just couldn't be neglected. I cycled by and was in a hurry, but changed priorities and... am ever so glad I did :-)

Some history?
The club origins from 1878 and is a merger of two clubs H.C.C. and Olympia. Both clubs had Red & White Stripes as colors, which can still be seen in the striped roof of the clubhouse.

In 1898 the Baron van Brienen donated at small* section of his mega estate 'Clingendael' to the club, who still own the land and thats considered unique as no club in Holland has their own ground.

*nevertheless we're still talking about a 35.000 square meter donation!

In 1978 our Queen Juliana granted the 'Royal' patronage & prefix on the occasion of the club's centenary.
