Westovian Theatre, South Shields

My heritage trail continues.

This is an end of pier theatre in South Shields. It was originally an open sided shelter for the public to use when visiting the beach in bad weather. The sides were closed in and it was converted to a theatre in about 1814. A man called Ken and his helper Adam showed us round. Another fascinating hour passed. It was very interesting and we saw all over the theatre - the extra is Ken and Adam in the female dressing room. Adam is starring in the upcoming pitman painters show.
Westoe is an area of South Shields and previously the theatre has been called the pavillion theatre.

Elmer the elephant is in Marine Park- extra.
