Resting place

A visit this afternoon to St Nicholas Church in Royal Parade Chislehurst.

A lovely new brick path is almost completed and winds it way from the side of the church past the gravestones and stops just before the crematorium remembrance gardens.

We browsed the churchyard and read the inscriptions on some of the old headstones dating back to 1800. We looked for the Commonwealtb War Graves but only found one - dedicated to a young cadet who lost his life in November 1918.

Since returning home I have researched a little on this church and have found out that Sir Malcolm Campbell, the early 20th C racing land speed record holder, is buried here. He died in 1948.

I have been visiting St Nicholas for over twenty years and only today found out that Sir Malcolm Campbell has his grave here. Next time I will look for it. Now I know why Pizza Express in Royal Parade has pictures of Bluebird on their walls.
