Mist on the Wall.

We had a stroll along the Antonine Wall this morning and the mist crept up from the canal and made the place quite atmospheric.
Although not scary-spooky, you really get the feeling that you might be faced by a Roman cohort marching along the military way. Close your eyes, open your ears and listen for the tramp of hobnailed sandals (caligae) and the clank and clatter of arms and armour (lorica segmentata and gladius) or even the shouts of the centurion ("sinistra, dextra!")
