A concrete love affair

Dalnamein Bridge

Another wonderful Sir Owen Williams concrete bridge structure once forming the main Perth to Inverness road. Located around 8 miles north of Blair Atholl, about 40 miles out of Perth.

Now bypassed and bedraggled the lovely arches and abutments left decaying and suffering tussles with stalactites. The parapet weathered and exposed a road removed and only able to support the weight of cyclists and pedestrians.

Overall I think it's a lovely piece of early concrete bridge infrastructure, aesthetically exquisite, a design, heroic, pushing technological boundaries yet built from such an age it seemingly bridges the gap between horse and cart and the age of the motor car. Perhaps something of a harbinger for the rest of the road infrastructure in many years hence; this bridge now only carries bikes!
