Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly

I had just got in from the hairdressers this lunchtime, when I noticed this butterfly on the fence in the back garden.  Grabbed my camera and rushed hobbled out before it flew away.  It stayed for ages, showing no inclination to move.  I took many shots, but like the shadow on this one.

It is T's birthday today, but wanting no great celebration as he is busy putting together the furniture for the new conservatory.  In his element messing about with wood and screws and things.
