The Citizen Building

As a part of Glasgow Doors Open a visit to the Citizen Building gives an opportunity to explore Glasgow's history through journalism.
But while all is shiny and new on St Vincent Place, the Citizen grasps a link to Glasgow's past, residing in the old offices and taking its name directly from the old Evening Citizen.
Published as an evening version of the Glasgow Citizen, a daily newspaper which was founded in 1842, it first published in August 1864 and was one of the first of three evening newspapers to be printed, published and sold in the city.
The building on St Vincent Place was the paper's home from 1889, until they moved to Albion Street where they printed their final edition on Friday March 29 1974.
Now the opening of the Citizen, a re-establishes that link with the city's past, with the venue featuring front pages, old stories and photographs
