Charing Cross at dusk

This. Is the M8 running through central Glasgow, taken from Sauchiehall Street at Charing Cross just before rush hour.

In fact, Charing Cross is gone. It was obliterated by the big chasm you are looking at which was built for the Motorway in 1971.

Large chunks of Glasgow including several churches and other historic landmarks were knocked down for what was seen as a vital piece of infrastructure.

One building which was preserved was the Mitchell Library which you can see floodlit on the right. It's a stunning building inside and out, funded inevitably bya tobacco lord, in this case Stephen Mitchell, although later also receiving a donation from Andrew Carnegie.

I tried to capture the blur of the car lights but unfortunately my phone only goes up to iso 800.
