Monday September 25th

Today I had proof how dangerous it is to spread rumours or gossip with however good intentions. The roll of honour of the Courageous was published and no F. Westwater. That must mean he was on another ship*, which is a good thing to be able to record.

Warsaw has not fallen yet, but its treatment is barbarous. If only there was any help we could give. If only it would not be sheer madness to attempt to reach it by aeroplane: The help that never came, that never could come.

Lull on the Western Front still continues and is likely to.

*This is a misassumption. See the footnote to Lorna's diary entry for Friday 22nd September.
