Statue of Liberty

Another busy day in NYC! Lucky with the weather so far, today was miserable and led to a good soaking. Unfortunately we left the main walking for today too!

Up early and onto the Staten Island Ferry. A free commuter journey from Battery Park, the ferry goes right past the Statue of Liberty and allowed great views of Manhattan and New Jersey. On the way back, the heavens opened and allowed some great moody, dark pictures of the Manhattan skyline, but we felt we couldn't go to NYC and not blip the Statue of Liberty.

We followed this with a wander over Brooklyn Bridge for another superb view and returned via Wall Street.

Afterwards we visited Ground Zero. A very sad and sobering experience, but they really have managed to find a very good balance between being repsectful to the tragedy, accomodating visitors and allowing the site to continue to function as a business centre.

A wet walk home through Little Italy and Chinatown before a visit to FAO Schwartz, Bloomingdales and proper window shopping (superb Christmas window displays) at Barney's and Sacs.
