Catastrophic

This rather nondescript image shows a catastrophe waiting to happen.  90% of the scrub are environmental weeds, including a vast amount of olive.  The fuel load is very high, and should a fire come through it truly would be catastrophic, especially for OGH which would be directly in the line of fire.

But there is good news!  We are 90% certain to get a $20,000 Federal Grant to get contractors in to remove the olive and other weeds.  The area is very degraded and little of the native vegetation will come back.  So that's where Friends of Belair NP come in.  They will follow up after the contractors, and remove small regrowth of olive and will undertake a massive vegetation program.

This money we are getting is very timely - but you have to be careful what you wish for.  The money is fantastic, but in order to qualify we have to do a horrendous amount of work, as volunteers, ourselves.

I think we are approaching our limit.
