Farewell France

An efficient ferry back to Portsmouth. I can honestly say I think I’ve driven around more roundabouts in St Malo than the whole rest of my trip. I did wonder what the little boat clinging to the side of our big ferry was as we left port - turned out to be the St Malo pilot’s lift home. And the choice of fruit tartelettes on board was wonderful - too many for a 9 hour voyage.

As for Gertie - well I might at least have persuaded her we’d left St Malo, which was an improvement on last year’s navigation home. But still she insisted on obtuse routing, ‘go round the roundabout’ and ‘turn around when possible’ as we proceeded up the M27 on my preferred route hone via Oxford and Northampton.

Another grand adventure over.
