Brächete (breaking)

Got away early enough from work to give my Polish friend glimpse of a tradition in a village nearby.
Still in the 19th century farmers would come together to prepare and break the flax so that the material would be ready to be used during the winter months. A local weaving company for linen cloth restarted the tradition more than seventy years ago.

The weather was perfect for the many visitors to the region but sadly they were already packing up when we got there. Still we managed to get something to eat before heading in the opposite direction to be present at the yearly concert of our friend’s choir.
