To Be...

……………or Not to Be

BACKBLIP - uploaded on 30th September for 24th September blip entry.

To see how it sparkles it is best seen in large and against the dark background.

WOW - World of WearableArt

This exhibit was a section winner in 2015. Along with several others it is on display in the Wellington Airport domestic terminal, NZ, promoting the upcoming show and awards being held in the city from the end of September to the beginning of October.

The spectacle is absolutely amazing - the ‘costumes’ are incredible and the live performance outstanding.

Thirty years ago WOW had its small beginnings in a rural area of Nelson, NZ. The museum and head office remain in this city.

The following has been taken from the WOW official website. I have also included a link to a video clip which also shows “To Be or not To Be” in action.

“The World of WearableArt Awards have bedazzled audiences in New Zealand with their magic and ingenuity for 30 years. What began as a small local competition has grown to become WOW, a theatrical spectacle and magnet for extraordinary talent from around the world.

WOW is an internationally renowned design competition that attracts entries from over 40 countries. Anything that is wearable art can find a place on the stage, as long as it is original, innovative and well executed.
For three weeks every year, WOW showcases the best of these creations in a spectacular show that takes over New Zealand’s vibrant capital city of Wellington in an explosion of creativity. This year 60,000 people will see the show”.

“A Queen Bee is flanked by her two worker bees. Yellow particles represent toxic pollen collected from crops that have been treated with pesticides. Light bulbs in the Queen Bee’s abdomen are symbolic of new life and hope for a future where man will live in harmony with our precious planet”
