The entrance to the Peterhead Junction canal

Originally the port of Peterhead had two harbours, north and south. They operated separately until 1826, when Robert Stevenson suggested connecting the two with a canal. His son David drew up the plans for what was to become the shortest canal in the UK. It is only 15 metres long so probably best that you don't plan a canal holiday!
