Our Favourite Watering Hole

Having a birthday so close to Xmas and New Year has its disadvantages as we found to our cost yesterday when we tried to book a table for lunch at one of the classier East Lothian restaurants. It was closed for three weeks after Xmas and New Year for refurbishment. So our compromise was to go to our favourite Dunbar eaterie, where we go probably once a fortnight. Still it was cosy, we always feel relaxed there and the food is fine. I hope the blip sums up some of the cosiness and familiarity of the place. They don't worry too much about decor and it has not been changed since they moved there over ten years ago but it is always warm and welcoming. It is amazing what a bit of red paint can do to promote bonhomie and they have a nice log fire.

I remember one birthday meal we had in Edinburgh when again it was a Monday and it was a relatively large restaurant but we were the only ones there the whole evening. Let's just say the ambience was somewhat lacking. Surprisingly The Rocks yesterday was actually quite busy maybe because all the other local restaurants were closed !
