2013: A Photo Odyssey

Boom!

Chuck Yeager's famous Bell x-1 hangs from the foyer ceiling of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

This particular jet was the first to successfully break the sound barrier on October 14, 1947.

If you ever have the chance to visit Washington DC, I highly recommend the NASM (even for those not interested in planes). Washington DC has to be one favourite cities -it was clean, it was safe (yes I know there are parts that aren't) and above all everyone was so friendly. So eager to show off the treasures of the capital. I only wish we'd planned a longer stay.
