Cross Bones Graveyard

This is a selection of the decorations and memorials to the Cross Bones burial ground in Southwark. This is decorate with toys and strips of coloured cloth and hearts- marked "touch for love". The burial ground is unconsecrated ground for prostitutes. By the 18th Century it became a paupers graveyard which was evntually closed in 1853. This memorial is supported by local residents as an important place in local historyHistory of the crossbones burial ground
