Frozen

We stopped at the top of the St Bernard pass yesterday on our way to Italy for a walk with friends. Towards the summit, the ground was partly covered in a small amount of snow and frost. The view down to the lake was spectacular (main photo).

We walked for around 5 hours down to Aosta along part of the Via Francigena (the ancient road and pilgrimage route that runs from Canterbury in the UK to Rome). The scenery was very different on the other side of the pass (they were still in summer) and it was wonderful to walk in the sun. (See extras) Next stop was Aosta for an apéro and a wander round the shops before taking taxis back to the car.

The day was topped off with a fabulous meal in a Michelin starred restaurant before driving back home. ( arriving just after midnight, hence, the back blip).

Wonderful day out.
