Dublin day 2: Culture

A day of extreme culture. First stop the Garden of Remembrance where this photo was taken - dedicated to all those lost in the fight for independence. Then on to the Hugh Lane Gallery for a large cup of coffee and a gasp at Francis Bacon's studio - a piece of archaeology and an art work in itself.  On to IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) housed in the magnificent Kilmainham Hospital ( a bit like Chelsea Hospital for old soldiers) - to see an exhibition on Lucien Freud and JB Yeats, and then a mosey around the rest of the exhibitions. We were frankly not that thrilled, the whole place is a bit up itself if you know what I mean from the labels to the art to the whole conceptual experience fandangle. Then on to the RHA , where we admired a powerful and beautiful exhibition of photography on cilliní, burial grounds mainly for unbaptised babies. Finally I went on to 14 Henrietta Street which was just wonderful - not a bit up itself, an excellent guided tour, and each room depicting a glimpse into its many varied lives. The colours were fabulous.
An excellent supper in veggie middle eastern place and we could walk no  longer so collapsed in a massive cinema and watched Judy  - an incredible performance from Renee Zellweger and a sad story.
Phew - a lot of culture and a huge amount of walking.
