Daily Tales

To be or not to be

I am currently reading a downloaded copy of Derek Jarman's "Modern Nature".

This is a diary of Jarman's garden in Dungeness and was originally heard on BBC Radio 4. I think I would enjoy it as an audiobook with Jarman narrating.

In 1986 Jarman discovered he was HIV positive and decided to make a garden at his cottage which is basically a wooden shack, on the shingle at Dungeness.

We have visited this area, known as Britains only desert, many times and Jarmans cottage and garden is as he left it. You cannot visit the interior as it is is occupied. A big nuclear power station is its backdrop.

Back to the book, which recounts many eras of his life over the years. I was bemused on reading the third paragraph "Restaurants were a new experience...........few had seen an avocado".

Is this the Britain that the Brexiteers wish to rekindle. No more popping out for an Italian at one of the many restaurant chains, or buying oranges from Spain.

I guess, what will be , will be........
