Awaiting right of way

Two more groups enjoyed a Railway Experience Day (RXD) on the Kent and East Sussex Railway. Upon payment of a large sum of money, often a birthday present, participants get to drive, fire and guard a complete round trip on the line, one group in the morning, the other in the afternoon.

The morning group start proceedings with a bacon roll, the afternoon with a sandwich lunch. And no, the bacon was not cooked on the fireman's shovel.

Without exception, on all the RXDs I've led everyone has had a memorable time. Their grins are almost as wide as mine! Their guests too, enjoy rolling through the gentle countryside of Kent and East Sussex, the ride often bringing back memories of when they were young. Certainly the whiff of steam, coal smoke and hot oil takes them back. through the years.
