Medlar miracle

One of three on my baby tree - not enough to make jelly though.
Apparently medlars, like quince, should be bletted (allowed to soften, maybe after frost or if picked unripe allowed to ripen) then the pulp can be spooned out and eaten raw.  According to the oenophile George Saintsbury they are the ideal fruit to accompany wine.
